We’ve been shortlisted for a Footprint Sustainable Procurement Award 2021

4 August 2021

Foodbuy, a leading group procurement organisation, has been shortlisted as a finalist at the Footprint Sustainable Procurement Awards 2021 in the category of Environmentally Efficient Logistics.

The Environmentally Efficient Logistics award celebrates businesses that have demonstrated logistical innovation and efficiencies that have produced clear environmental benefits.

Organised by the Footprint Media Group, the Footprint Awards are the first initiative to honour the achievements of companies in the area of sustainability and responsible business practice in the out of home sector and its supply chain.

We’ve been shortlisted for our work in sourcing responsibly through our ‘Buy Smart’ optimisation programme. In our mission to ‘Buy Smart’, we focus on using the right suppliers, the right products and the right routes to market to reduce our carbon footprint and reinforce our focus on helping to build a better world.

As part of our ‘Buy Smart’ optimisation programme:

  • We have recently taken 10,000 deliveries off the road each week, equating to a reduction of 160,000 KG of CO2 every week – and this is an area that continues to deliver efficiencies.
  • We carefully consider those we partner with and one of our sandwich providers has been an early adopter of green technology with their current fleet operating at 1/3 utilising electric and Hybrid technology. Another great example is our strategic partner for non-food, Bunzl, who are in the process of switching their fleet to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, a 100% renewable alternative to fossil diesel fuel with reduced greenhouse gas emissions for cleaner air.

This is just the beginning for us, and we continuously look at how we can reduce delivery miles, minimise packaging and strive for net zero.

Ian Murphy, Managing Director of Foodbuy, said: “I’m delighted Foodbuy has been shortlisted for a Footprint Sustainable Procurement Award. As a food business, over 80% of our client’s carbon impact is in the supply chain, so we have real opportunity to drive change. Our mission to ‘Buy Smart’ has not only unlocked a world of opportunity for SMEs, but has also driven down food miles and CO2 emissions delivering clear environmental benefits.”

Organised by Footprint, and judged by senior industry specialists, the Footprint Awards have become synonymous with best practice and dedication to sustainability. For over a decade the Awards have seen yet another record number of entries evidencing the increased importance placed on sustainability within the corporate policy mix.

The winners will be announced at the Footprint Awards Dinner on Thursday, 16 September 2021 at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London. Wish us luck!
