Volunteers shape up University of Leicester NHS Trust’s Secret Garden

17 July 2023

A team of green fingered volunteers made up of hospital partners, tended to “The Secret Garden” at Glenfield Hospital, part of the University of Leicester NHS Trust. Ten volunteers from Compass Group UK & Ireland’s Cuisine Centre team and Foodbuy’s NHS Supply Chain: Food team*, along with representation from NHS England, spent a day weeding, pruning, and planting to help maintain the garden.

The special area is an important place for staff, visitors, and patients to come, to give them time and space to reflect and relax.

The Cuisine Centre’s Steamplicity team work with the hospital to supply patient meals, that are nutritious, delicious and convenient, with the NHS Supply Chain: Food team working to deliver food and drink more widely.

John Harvey, National Accounts Manager, Steamplicity commented: “We are always keen to support the communities we operate in and this has been a great way to work with our partner at Leicester to help the local people that we both serve. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting our hands dirty doing gardening and the gardens look absolutely beautiful.”

Karen James, Commercial Services Manager at Leicester Hospital said: “It’s been a great day, a big thank you to our volunteers for all the hard work and efforts. It’s great to have our partners support us in this way.
