Rubies in the Rubble

Food waste is an important issue and as a leading procurement organisation, we have a responsibility to reduce food waste in the UK.

Together, we have rescued over a million berries and more than 60,000 apples

Food waste is an important issue and as a leading procurement organisation, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to reduce food waste in the UK.

That’s why we work with Rubies in the Rubble, an award-winning great taste condiment brand made from fruit and veg that, due to size, shape or colour would go to waste.

Rubies in the Rubble took the nation’s favourite condiment and packed their ketchup full of surplus pears and apples. The Vegan Mayo range is made using surplus aquafaba. Aquafaba is the nutrient-rich water left over from cooking chickpeas which would normally be thrown away. By using surplus ingredients that would otherwise be wasted we are positively contributing to the future of our planet, valuing our resources, and encouraging people to see waste in a different way.

So far, our partnership with Rubies in the Rubble has saved 9,413kg of fruit from going to waste, equivalent of over 50,000 hours of streaming on Netflix, and we are proud to be working with the social enterprise in making a difference.

Nick Turner, CEO at Rubies in the Rubble said: “We love working with Foodbuy. Not just because we've rescued a ton of surplus fruit and veg, but also because of the amazing reaction we've had from customers who love our mission and love our great-tasting products. People love to see big businesses collaborating with small, to make such a positive environmental impact. It's a win-win situation for us both, and most importantly, for the planet too.”

Tackling a challenge like food waste is not an easy one, but we’re proud to be working with sustainable brands like Rubies in the Rubbles to alleviate the impact.
