How Foodbuy Group supports care home chefs through culinary training and consultancy

Our Culinary Offering

We recognise that developing strong culinary teams is essential to delivering great food experiences, particularly in sectors where nutrition, consistency and care matter most. That’s why our culinary support offering focuses on empowering chefs with the insight, training and hands-on guidance they need to get the very best from their products and kitchens.

Supporting Care Home Nutrition and Menu Development

We recently spent the day with one of our care home clients at one of their care homes. This provided us with a practical example of how we work in partnership with clients to turn procurement insight into real, day-to-day impact.

On development days our culinary teams carry out a consulting kitchen visit, spending time with chefs during preparation and service to understand working practices first-hand. Observing how ingredients and equipment are used, how recipes are executed and how food is served to consumers. These development days allow us to provide practical, consultative guidance tailored to the individual clients and their culinary teams.

As part of the development session, we were joined by two of our supply partners IceSupp and Essential Cuisine, bringing products specifically aligned to care home nutritional goals. Rather than discussing products in theory, chefs had the opportunity to taste them, ask questions and then apply them directly within their own cooking. This hands-on approach helped teams understand how nutritional solutions, including plant-based supplements and high-quality base products, could be incorporated seamlessly into their residents’ everyday menus.

Going Beyond Procurement

These collaborative sessions between our Foodbuy Group team, clients and suppliers are a core element of the development days we offer to clients. By connecting chefs directly with supplier solutions that are already supported by Foodbuy agreements, we ensure inspiration in the kitchen translates into practical, cost-effective implementation on-site.

While development days provide valuable hands-on engagement with supplier products, they represent just one part of Foodbuy Group’s wider culinary support offering.

Through our Culinary Training Academy, we support chefs at all stages of their careers with training that is practical, relevant and tailored to sector needs. Junior chefs benefit from best-practice guidance around themes such as food waste reduction, service standards and managing complaints, while more experienced teams such as regional head chefs can access our specialist training courses such as texture-modifying food training. Through these training days our Foodbuy Group chefs ensure skills and standards are embedded across client sites. This creates a ripple effect, allowing knowledge gained through our support to be shared, scaled and sustained over time across client businesses.

Together, these layers of support demonstrate how Foodbuy Group goes beyond procurement. By combining on-site consultancy, development days and structured training, we help organisations build stronger kitchens, more confident teams and food offers that deliver nutritional, operational and commercial goals.
