In addition to mixed farming practices amongst main commodity crops of coffee & cocoa, farmers can increase resilience by planting a diverse range of more drought and disease-resistant coffee seeds.
Including coffee/cocoa trees as part of a wider farming system also promotes biodiversity, as will including cover crops throughout the year.
Soil Health:
In this emerging area of regenerative agriculture; we are looking for suppliers that value improved water management in order to support soil density & plant strength. Appropriate pruning can support cocoa tree health and productivity, contributing to the long-term resilience of cocoa-growing systems.
Shade or border growing trees protect soils while also creating a more resilient crop.
Space for Nature:
Agroforestry and reforestation of native trees can protect surrounding lands from being negatively impacted as well as increasing the health of local water systems.
Coffee sourced through our primary coffee distribution partner is certified to either Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance standards.
The Nestlé Cocoa Plan supports cocoa-farming communities by promoting more sustainable farming practices and helping farmers build resilient livelihoods. Through initiatives such as training, farm development support and the Income Accelerator Programme, Nestlé aims to help address challenges facing cocoa-growing communities while supporting the long-term future of cocoa production.
