As the UK’s leading food procurement company, we understand that we have a responsibility to do better for people and planet. We believe our supplier partnerships should go beyond transactions - they should drive positive change. That’s why we strive to work with suppliers that aim to make our planet a better place.
Since they were established 30 years ago, Nestlé Cereal Partners’ pledge and promise has been ‘we exist to make breakfast better’. In the past year alone, our clients have enjoyed over 1 million bowls of Nestlé cereal - a milestone that reflects the quality of their products alongside the power of shared purpose through their sustainability initiatives. That’s why we’re celebrating our partnership - their commitment to better breakfasts and a better planet aligns closely with our own values.
Nestlé Cereal Partners work closely with farmers to champion sustainable farming across the UK. Through initiatives like the Nestlé Wheat Plan, a sustainable farming initiative that supports British wheat farmers in adopting regenerative agriculture practices, Nestlé actively encourage farmers to do better for the planet. The Wheat Plan works with farmers and communities by collaborating with the Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) scheme, an initiative which brings together businesses, public bodies, Non-Governmental Organisations, farmers and land managers, to finance and implement initiatives to improve the health, productivity and resilience of the landscapes they all rely on. This means farmers are empowered to make their practices more sustainable – in turn reducing pesticides, improving biodiversity, and helping protect soil health for future generations.
A number of their UK farmers are already taking part in the Nestlé Wheat Plan, with aspirations to grow this number in the future, creating benefits for both communities and ecosystems.
Sustainability isn’t just their journey - it’s ours too. We strive to work with suppliers who are actively reducing their environmental footprint, and Nestlé Cereal Partners’ ‘better lives promise’ to support communities through the power of breakfast encapsulates this. From the sourcing of their ingredients to the making and delivery of their products, they are aiming to deliver lasting change to the people and places around us. Nestlé Cereal Partners have multiple sustainability targets and initiatives:
· Aiming to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 – playing their part in meeting the Paris Climate Agreement goals.
· Striving to reduce excess packaging materials where possible
· Continuing to eliminate solid waste for disposal from all their sites.
· Aiming to reduce water usage year-on-year in factories and distribution centres. Nestlé have reduced their water usage by 21% since 2018, across all sites.
· Nestlé Cereal Partners have set a target to make 100% of their packaging designed for recycling by 2025 (moving from 85% widely recyclable, 13% designed for recycling, and 2% not recyclable). Currently, 98% of their packaging is designed for recycling.
Our partnership with Nestlé Cereal Partners is one that helps us meet the needs of our clients while also supporting responsible sourcing, innovation, and sustainability at scale.
